History of Germs

The idea of Germs first came to me early in the year (January 2015)

I wanted to play around with music and narration. I was really excited about it so I boarded it and put together an animatic. Around March, I started to feel the fire burn out. I was tired, but mostly I was lost about the direction the short was going in. So I decided to take a break from it.

Summer came and went and I was ready to start working on something again. I had just bought TVPaint and decided the best way to learn the software was by finishing a short with it.  That's when the fire for Germs started up again.

Germs was made with 2 purposes,  I've always wanted to experiment with musical cartoons, and I spent the summer making pastel drawings of the more abstract and modern style. So that's when it hit me, why not make Germs and complete experiment.

Reason one- experiment with music, Reason two- animate experimental styles.

I wrote the lyrics to Germs for the first version and decided to keep them as a center focus. I then played with the designs. Once August came I was ready to start production. two months of discipline and I had reached the end point. I was really happy with the final product it captured exactly what I wanted.

Notes

I am very lucky and got two new students, they dropped in a few times during the last couple of months and boy where they fun. I am truly honored to be able to share some of my knowledge with them.

Last class, Camila (right) suddenly became adventurous and explored open some "locked cabins" on my chuck board, we found Bibles, small faith books and old newspaper clippings. She found the "magic opener" and was very animated about it. we couldn't find the secret door, but there is always next week.

Nicolaus Copernicus

In the early 1500's the father of modern astronomy emerged. Copernicus was born in 1473 in Poland. His Heliocentric solar system model, which put the Sun at the center and not the earth was simple and elegant. Can you imagine if we still thought the earth was the center of the universe.
